Brazilian Tenor Giovanni da Silva began his musical studies in Recife at the Federal University of Pernambuco. He continued his studies with Prof. Josef Protschka at the Academy of Music in Cologne. In Europe he performed already numerous concerts with a repertory from early Baroque Music to world premieres of contemporary composers. In 2014 da Silva was the  Tenor-Soloist in Cologne, Paris and Monte Carlo  with Stockhausen's Momente (Conductor: Peter Eötvös)

 

His European operatic debut was in 2001 at the Schlossfestspiele Zwingenberg  as Beppo / Harlequin. (I Pagliacci, Conductor: Guido Johannes Rumstadt). Giovanni da Silva has performed with  Christoph Poppen, Semyon Bychkov, Helmut Froschauer, Helmut Müller-Brühl, Romely Pfund and other conductors. Other opera appearances have been Belmonte(Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Mozart) in Osnabrück, Prince Armidoro (Die Zauberzither, W. Müller) at Cologne Opera House and, among others the Pilot (The Little Prince, Nicholas Schapfl) at the Philharmonie Cologne, Beethovenhalle Bonn and Alte Oper Frankfurt.

 

2004 finalist of the Robert Stolz Competition Hamburg, Giovanni da Silva is winner of the DAAD Prize 2006.

 

Soon concerts, CD-recordings and broadcasts took place with orchestras, among others, the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra and the Ensemble Intercontemporain. Recently, he had a guest appearance as Cavaradossi in the german ZDF TV Series "SOKO Köln“.
